The challenge was to turn an everyday tote bag into a clear lifestyle product brand with function, attitude and commercial viability.
In a crowded accessories market, SaltyBao needed to communicate both practicality and desire while building a healthier product and business model. The brand had to balance design, function, material quality, production cost, retail pricing and margin potential — while creating a flexible content system for e-commerce, social media and future retail channels in both China and Europe.

The result was a new retail brand built from product idea to cross-market testing — with stronger supply-chain efficiency and improved margin potential.
The Design Studio developed SaltyBao from Malta in collaboration with Chinese supply-chain partners — creating a 470g lightweight fashion tote with water-resistant inner and outer fabric, multi-pocket organisation and multiple carrying options. Through supply-chain optimisation, material selection and production planning, the project improved product quality, cost efficiency and margin potential, reaching an 88% gross margin while preparing the brand for retail testing across China and Europe.
Next projects.
